About Tacoma's Measure 1Measure 1 penned as a “Tenant Bill of Rights” was an initiative sponsored by Tacoma For All, an organization endorsed by the Democratic Socialist Party. The Measure further restricts rental housing provider and property holder rights. We fought tirelessly in Tacoma against the harmful impact Measure 1 would have on Tacoma’s residents and rental stock. RHAWA participated in public forums, organized doorbelling weekends, spoke at length with city lawmakers as well as shared the voices and experiences of our 5,000 members. We lost by only 370 votes. RHAWA aggressively advocates to ensure the relationship between housing providers and residents is equitable, we defend property rights, and encourage safe housing practices and policies. Achieving these goals is only possible with the involvement of housing providers.
